Greetings from the President
College is a set of experiences that can include everything from field research on the other side of the world to a dead car battery outside the library at 11 p.m. If we do our jobs well, each of these experiences can bring learning and personal growth. The key is to provide an avenue where knowledge and experience can come together in transformative ways.
Last fall, TU introduced a statement outlining this pathway and the environment that we seek to make synonymous with The University of Tulsa. This statement, the TU Commitment, showcases our resolve that TU students will feel accepted, empowered, engaged and sustained upon a path of self-discovery. These pillars help our students pursue their purpose, develop their talents and enrich society.
This issue of The University of Tulsa Magazine explains more about the TU Commitment, its origin and what we are doing to expand this vision. Our efforts represent a fresh engagement with TU’s longstanding tradition of student opportunity and success.
As we move forward, I challenge every member of the TU family to own and enact the TU Commitment which could include creating an internship or special-project opportunity at your organization, hosting an international student at a holiday meal, or helping to fund a student organization. Even a little focus on these goals will yield vast possibilities and will help TU shine as a place where students can add a remarkable chapter to the story of their lives.
